The Frustration of Corporate Life

This week has been a trying week, with work becoming increasingly challenging.  This has nothing to do with the work but everything to do with the organisation and its culture.  Just yesterday I caught sight of this hilarious sketch that explains my pain perfectly

What were your thoughts? Can you relate?  Do you attend meetings reminiscent of the twilight zone, where everybody but you appears to know what is going on and the actions being suggested are the single most ridiculous things you have had the misfortune of hearing.  If you answer yes to even one of these questions, welcome to my world.  It seems that for many of us our days are taken up by endless meetings discussing, well, nothing in particular.  Meetings where there is a plethora of discussion with no clear outcome or actions.  I find myself deliberating on waking whether going to the office is the best use of my time and for those of you that know me, I place substantial value on time.  This leads me to ask the question, ‘is this corporate world the right one for me’?

As a classic doer I am frustrated by talking and respond better to action focussed leadership.  What are we trying to achieve and is a meeting the best forum to achieve this?  Nine times out of ten the answer is invariably no!  Rather than griping in a blog, I suppose the question I should be asking myself is what am I going to do about it?   Tell me, what did you do about it?
